Yawnsville ——> Awesomecity
I’ve had this tray for a while and it has been very practical in the household of beer lovers and on-the-couch eaters. This whole time, however, it has been very coy in the midst of all the brown in our living room. It was time for the tray to stand out and make a statement, aka to be repainted.
Call me a victim of peer pressure , but I couldn’t pass the opportunity to add the good ol’, yet so very modern, chevron pattern.
*Did you know Chevron is an ancient European pattern? Examples of it can be found way back in 1800 BC on rock carvings and pottery. A little history for ya:)
I began the revamp by wiping the tray, sanding and priming it. I spray painted the whole thing white and then came the tedious part of drawing the pattern with a pencil…
… taping it off with painters tape
… covering the edges with newspaper and spray-painting with brown
… letting it dry, removing the tape, and sanding the edges to distress a bit.
and voilà!
Formerly boring and timid tray, now definitely screams “I’m here!!!”
Do you approve of the transformation?

love it! love chevron!
Thanks, Cal.
I’ve also seen people use a piece of wall paper or contact paper to give the bottom a unique pattern…love the idea!
Thanks, Laura.
Yes, wall paper could have given a nice pattern. I was just worried it wouldn’t stand a chance of lasting in our house:)
You never cease to impress, my dear! Love seeing all your ideas and getting some of my own from you!
Aww, thank you, Barb. You are so encouraging:)
Love love love it. It’s so fun to freshen an item you already own! Thanks for sharing.
Amy
Thanks, Ames. I know right? Who knew painting could be so fun? Only a couple of months ago I had no idea how spray paint worked. Oh, what Natty Nook can do:)
OOOOH! Yes. Aproval, for sure. Love!
This is TOOOO cute! This is wonderful.
