Make Your Own Natural “Coffee Mate”

I was doing my routine weekend morning grocery shopping when I bumped into this lil cutie…
Have you seen these in the store yet? Now I really do enjoy some coffee with my creamer so obviously, this caught my attention. As I reached for it, I again had a “skeptic” moment and compared it to the regular kind of coffee mate…

If you haven’t checked out the ingredients on normal creamer, I wouldn’t suggest it. Well, I would but I wouldn’t. If you know what I mean.

No, you don’t know what I mean? Oh, okay, let me explain…

Normal creamers = abnormal amount of ridiculously unnecessary ingredients.

That’s what I mean.

So I was coming into the light of natural creamers when it hit me: I could make this myself for half the cost! Seriously, the ingredients in these things are as follows (taken from the website): nonfat milk, heavy cream, sugar, and natural flavors.

Sounds easy enough right? Right!

So here’s what I did…. Combine:

1/2 cup nonfat milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

2 tbsp vanilla extract

3 tbsp sugar

I kept it in a mason jar in my fridge for a couple of weeks and used it sparingly (cough, cough… not) in my coffee.

Now, obviously, this is for the vanilla flavored coffee creamer. I have decided to expand this section of my knowledge and will soon be experimenting with a peppermint mocha home creamer… more to come.

I know how many coffee-junkies there are in the world so I hope you try this. Oh and if you don’t like it, it wasn’t me who suggested it. I think it was Martha Stewart or something….

Happy it’s almost Friday to you!

    • Oooh… Almond milk… I’ve never thought of that. Keep me posted on how it turns out. I’m saving Peppermint Mocha for post-Thanksgiving…. I have to restrain myself or else I’ll go crazy with it :)

      • Sooo glad we did this! The creamer tastes “cleaner” than ID or Coffeemate. It’s so easy to sweeten and flavour cream to your liking, I dunno why it took so long for me to try it. We used brown sugar for sweetener and 10% cream instead of skim milk and heavy fat mixed..kinda made more sense to save money on a bigger container of 10% instead of buying 2 smaller sizes. We’re gonna try maple syrup as a sweetener next time :) I’m sure it will make all the difference!
