Your Nose Will Love You

I made a pie this weekend.

You may have heard.

Or maybe you haven’t.

Let me tell you… I made a pie this weekend.

In the process of making this pie… you know… the one I made this weekend?… I discovered something from my youth that has been lurking in the back of my blonde brain for years… instant “make-your-house-smell-like-an-apple-cider-convention-at-Christmas-time” air freshener.

Home made might I add.

Home made and super natural.

Not Supernatural. Super. Natural. Think less Superman and more Discovery Channel.

My mom used to have this simmering on our stove top from September 1-January 1. It makes me crave candy apples, pumpkin bread, snow and Christmas trees.

It makes my life.

Here’s what you do…

Find something fragrent…. I would suggest oranges, tangerines, clementines… anything in the citrus family… and peel it…

Then rummage through your pantry for some smell good spices…

Combine in a small sauce pan with a good amount of water… Keep the lid off though… Since we’re friends, I’ll be honest with you… this saucepan below has oatmeal in it. I forgot to snap a pic of the saucepan with the goodness in it so I improvised. Just being real…

Let simmer as long as you want your house to smell like your grandma’s kitchen. Just remember to keep adding water to it.. you don’t want it to go dry.

You know what’s great too??

You can save this and use it again! See…doesn’t it look like beef stew from the can? Thankfully this smells better. Way better.

And you’re saving yourself and your family from all of the harsh chemicals and products that abide in synthetic air fresheners and candles… I’ll spare you my lecture…

Just promise me you’ll try this. Please.

I’m glad we had this talk.
