Tight Trend

Growing up, I hated winter…

Winter always came with the one thing that I hated most in the world…. tights.

My mom was adamant about me wearing tights instead of letting me bare my hairy little, pre-teen legs. Anytime I wore anything but pants the tights came out.

I thought having to wear these itchy, stomach squeezing things was the worst thing that could possibly happen. It was up there with the time I realized that was not going to be a professional football player because girls couldn’t play in the NFL….Earth shattering.

Fast forward 20-something years… I find myself picking outfits out specifically so I can sport a new pair of patterned tights. Like these from ModCloth that I have been eyeing…

I heart them. It was THE BEST day when they came back in style. Plus, now I can appreciate their tummy tightening effect… my how my world has changed since I was a pre-teen…

Did you know that there are rules to wearing tights?? I was informed of this last night at our weekly friends dinner. Speaking of…. I have a killer black bean and quinoa burger recipe coming your way… soon and very soon!

Okay so here’s the rules according to Bobbie Thomas, editor of Today:

  • The shorter the skirt/dress, the more opaque your tights should be… a.k.a. they cover more.
  • Consider your shape when picking prints… if you have broader shoulders, going with a bold print can draw attention to your legs.
  • If you’re legs are a little bit thicker, vertical stripes work wonders in creating a slimmer line.

There are so many statements you can make with a good tight…
