DIY Headbands

Happy Valentine’s Day friends!

I wanted to share with you a project the my friend LeAnne and I did over the weekend.

We work with a group of ladies on Monday nights and wanted to do something special to let them know how much heart them. We made headbands and sent a note that said, “Our lives would KNOT be the same without you”… precious, I know.

Seriously, we should work for Hallmark or something.

Hallmark or Pajamagrams… have you seen their commercials?? The ones with the grown women lounging in animal printed footy pajamas??? Need I say more??

LeAnne has been sporting this pretty fun headband around and I have been admiring it for weeks…. She found the idea from Tripping Over Joy a few months back… here’s the original picture from Tripping Over Joy...

Old T-shirt head bands.

You love it too, huh?

So we decided to make them as lil’ gifts for our Monday night ladies. We used it as an excuse to get together and watch a chick-flic… as if we needed an excuse…

Ladies LOVE these headbands. Our girls last night were wearing them around in all sorts of fashion-forward statements… and they super cheap so it makes them that much better to share… here’s what you need to do…

Take a t-shirt and cut off the bottom strip of seam… (not pictured because I’m a total ditz)

Start cutting strips across the shirt…

For one headband, you need three strips that look like this…

Take your loop and just cut on side of it to make one long strip of cloth… do that two more times and tie the end into a knot….

Then start braiding…. but the kicker is to braid as TIGHTLY as possible… once you’ve braided all the way, tie the other end. It should look like this….

You can use solid colors or mix and match… it’s really up to you. We did a bit of both… we had 15 to make so we got a little cray cray…

Then, when you’re ready to wear them, just tie it around your head and secure in the back… easy as pie.

It’s Valentine’s Day today…

Eat a lot of candy today. Wear red… or pink. Make sure you stop and smell the red roses.

And most importantly…

Tell someone you love them. And tell them again. And again.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

    • Yeah. leave the knot in the back. I don’t untie it every time i take it off, but it’s up to you. You leave it a little roomy so you can slide it on and off your head. Or you can untie it every time. it’s up to you.

  1. Instead of tying it together in the back, I cut an elastic hair tie so that it was one long elastic and glued the ends to the ends of the braid. It works well. This way, it’s a bit more flexible ad easy to take off.
