A big howdy from Texas, y’all!
I flew home yesterday to help my mom as she’s recovering from surgery, and let me tell you… it feels good to be home. I flew Southwest Airlines…
Love. Love. Love.
I wish I could fly Southwest Airlines ALL over the world. Not only do they let you carry-on and check your bags for free, they still provide FREE snacks and beverages, have friendly staff AND bigger planes…
They also publish and carry magazines on board with articles like this one…
I’m in love.
I was greeted at my mom’s house by my half-brother Bruce…
He was really excited to see me… clearly.
It’s a sunny, cool (surprisingly) day today… it’s reminding me of Indiana… which reminds me of my porch, which makes me think of the park we live in, which is green… very green, green reminds me of my garden, which brings me to seeds.
The mind is a complicated thing, no?
We started our herb garden a while ago, but this past weekend, I decided it was time (or rather past time) to start our vegetables. I tend to always start mine indoors, just to make sure we get them off the ground…
If you have never started a garden from seeds, you should DEFINITELY start as much as you can indoors… I know it’s a super “simple” process, but it took me a while to actually know what I was doing… and most of the time sometimes I still don’t! I know I can’t be the only one who’s a bit confused on how to do this whole green thumb thing so here’s how I spent last Saturday…
After two trips to Ace Hardware, I finally remembered everything I needed: seeds, organic seed starting soil, decompostable seed cups, and new gloves… I already had the hand shovel.
You want to make sure you read the back of the label to see how deep the seeds need to be planted… then go to work starting with filling the cups part full of soil…
Like I said, each cup will differ with the amount of soil before and after, so check the seed package… then add your seeds…
Cover the seeds with the remaining soil…
And repeat with however many types of veggies you want… make sure you water them before you put them in a warm, sunny spot.
Gardening is seriously so wonderful. I am constantly amazed at how much gardening and life seem to correlate. I won’t go into this except to say that you have to constantly be vigilant to work, grow, weed and prune to harvest the ultimate goal… kind of like life…what a reward!
And I’m off my soap box… play in your garden if you can this weekend… it’s therapeutic.
Happy last day of the week, y’all!
